Box around the FX board
« on: March 05, 2016, 07:53:00 AM »
I was planning to give this to my kids to play around, but thought that a hardware box around the board would be safe. Have you planned for one or can you suggest something that will can fit this properly with the dimensions? Something similar to the ones that comes with Raspberry Pi boards.

Thanks
Satya

Hi Satya,

We are planning on 2 case options in the near future, we just have to get through shipping all the back orders first :-)
The first option will be 2 pieces of laser cut acrylic for the top and bottom with stand offs, the other is a full plastic case.

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Would you have a box schematic for either box that I could use to print out on a 3D printer?
Maybe you could suggest a generalized box that can be modified for the switch?

Thanks!

Any feedback on this?

From the pictures it seems the box it's a little bit loose but maybe it's just from the photos...

Thanks

(just wrote a complete feedback on the box and add some pictures. received an error message after some seconds saying the attachments were too large and all the text i've written was washed away. 192K is to low. I'll just upload the images somewhere)

As for the box (now a short review):

- Front: could have more precise measures
- Back: the same for the micro usb connection hole
- the holes for the feet don't really match the feet position. had to do some after printing repair.
- ethernet plugs prevent box from closing. tried to flat what's marked in the picture. it helped.
- for 3d printing, the walls could be a little bit more thick, specially side/front/back walls. For some molde injection technology i guess it would be ok.
- had to use some scotch tape to keep the box closed. not sure if there are some really small sockets on the design to fasten the box but, if so, they didn't work
- i guess the zodiac doesn't get too warm but just in case decided to make some grid on the sides for air flow. since the walls are to thin, decided not to clean the excess material.

With some small adjustments, this box is exactly what the Zodiac needs.

Is there a list of dimensions available? That way I can (more) easily create a nice 3d printed housing (I'll share the STL files).
