Communication problem between Zodiac FX switch and Host
« on: November 03, 2019, 11:25:05 PM »
Hello,

I have the following problem with a Zodiac FX switch, which is up-to-date.

Switch IP address 192.168.1.204/24
Gateway 192.168.1.201

Switch IP address 192.168.1.207/24
Gateway 192.168.1.201

Controller IP address 192.168.1.201

I have my Zodiac (Z) connected to a switch. In P1 of the Z, I have a Raspberry  as a host.

When I ping from the controller computer to the Z I do get a positive reply, however when I  ping from the controller computer to  the host, i get the message "Host unreachable".

If I ping from the host to either the controller or the Z, I get the "Host unreachable" message.

I am working on Ubuntu

Any idea what the problem could be? Any explanation will be highly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Serge

Hi Serge,

The controller on the Zodiac FX runs out of band (OOB), so port 4 is isolated from the other 3 ports. That is why you can't acces the Zodiac FX or controller from the hosts.

Paul

Thanks Paul.

Do you have know if I there is a way to configure the switch, so that i can ping successfully from the controller to the and vice-versa?  Or where I could find information on how to do this?

Also, I don't know if this configuration makes any difference, but I just noticed I did not described correctly the configuration of my network.  On my set up in my previous message, what I meant to say was the following:

Zodiac Switch IP address 192.168.1.204/24
Gateway 192.168.1.201

Host IP address 192.168.1.207/24 (Raspberry Pi connected to Z switch in P1)
Gateway 192.168.1.201

Controller IP address 192.168.1.201
Using a dumb switch where the Zodiac and the controller computer are connected to.

Thanks again.

Serge

Thanks Paul, I figured it out.
